A Beautiful Pink Plaid…

I am in LOVE with this gown! I love the pleating along the neckline and the soft pink bow and box pleat around the hem….just stunning!!!

A lovely example of 1840’s complex fabric dyeing, pattern, and use of ombré. When it comes to the seeing ombré in historical fashion from this time period, it looks a bit different then the ombré of the last decade (2010’s).

Deep into lecture preparation for my talk on June 17th @hullfamilyhome1 highlighting rural/working fashion for American women within the years 1780-1850. While high fashion often shows political and social influences, “working” clothes tell a story of the everyday person and the life they lived. While there are not a lot of original working garments from the 18th and 19th century, there is still so much we can learn and decipher through art, recycled garments, personal correspondence, and various texts/sources. Thought I would share a few highlights from the depths of my research!
